DIY Conservatory – for that extra room
Your family may be growing and there will come a time that you will need more space for your ever growing family. You may have been fine with a three bedroom house years ago, but with new members of the family such as new kids, in-laws and grandchildren, each family member will need more personal space.
So, if you are beginning to think that your home is no longer large enough to accommodate the whole
family, the most resourceful and practical thing to do is to build an additional DIY conservatory. What is a conservatory? By definition, it is a structure constructed unto the side of the house. Commonly, it is used for enjoyment of surrounding landscapes whilst being sheltered from weather conditions like wind and rain. This structure is particularly popular in the United States of America, Canada, Europe, Ireland, New Zealand and Australia.
Most people opt to solve the problem by adding a loft extension or by constructing a conservatory. Loft extensions can be quite pricey and cannot be achieved without the aid from a seasoned professional. A DIY conservatory, on the other hand, is a couple undred dollars cheaper and can be built without the need to hire a specialist or a professional. In fact, you can do it yourself by buying a DIY kit! With the use of a DIY kit, you can build a conservatory within a weekend without disturbing the everyday family routine.
Conservatories are great as an extra bedroom, reception, sitting room or dining area. You can use it for a multitude of purposes, making it the cheapest and most cost effective way to solving your space dilemma.
First of all, decide the relative size you want the conservatory to be. Maximize your available space. The larger it is the better. Once the size of the structure is decided, next thing to do is to consider the style. An all glass conservatory may not be good if you intend it to use as a dining area. Consider other materials and see what they can offer.
Lay a proper foundation if you won’t be building on an existing patio or deck. See if the construction will be able to meet the conservatory building regulations. Seek advice from the local builder, contractor and council for specific regulations regarding your planned construction.
Other factors include ease of access to water and electricity. Another consideration is heating and air conditioning. Heating and cooling elements are not part of these DIY kits, so you’ll have to wire your structure separately from your home.
Considering all these factors, doesn’t it sound good to build your DIY Conservatory now? A DIY kit is the most cost effective way possible and this will benefit the whole family greatly. DIY kits are not recommended though, unless you have had average building experience. If otherwise, it may be better to seek professional help and let them do all the work for you to eliminate the stress and reduce the time in building conservatory.
